In the same time Input2 will start timer2 and finally Input3 will stop timer2.<br \/>\nBased on the preselected distance and the detected time by the timer, the MCU will calculate and visualize the speed of the process and if you used three sensors then you can calculate the acceleration based on both speeds.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.blog.exrockets.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/PRI.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1148\" src=\"http:\/\/www.blog.exrockets.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/PRI.jpg\" alt=\"PRI\" width=\"722\" height=\"435\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.blog.exrockets.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/PRI.jpg 722w, http:\/\/www.blog.exrockets.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/PRI-300x181.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 722px) 100vw, 722px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This chronograph is designed by using the PIC18F4550\/PIC18F4553 internal timers while the internal logic is working at 48MHz. All three inputs are protected against under and overvoltage with clamping diodes.\u00a0 All inputs, wire and external sensors, are OR-ed with fast switching diodes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.blog.exrockets.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/TOP_NS0.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1149\" src=\"http:\/\/www.blog.exrockets.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/TOP_NS0.jpg\" alt=\"TOP_NS0\" width=\"1800\" height=\"1337\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.blog.exrockets.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/TOP_NS0.jpg 1800w, http:\/\/www.blog.exrockets.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/TOP_NS0-300x223.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.blog.exrockets.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/TOP_NS0-1024x761.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1800px) 100vw, 1800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Because this chronograph is capable of measuring very fast processes with resolution of only 100 nano-seconds, when using a wire as sensor you should select the wire as thin as possible because the speed at which the wire is being burned-through, stretched or simply destroyed, sometimes can be commensurable with the speed of the process you are measuring.<br \/>\nAlso in some cases, depending on the measurement, the process can induce electric currents in the wire sensor, which can lead to wrong measurement results.<br \/>\nTo mitigate those effects I implemented a simple window comparator with the double comparator IC LM393. The voltage at the wire is set to 4.5v through a two-resistor voltage divider. Then this voltage is compared to two window voltages of 4.4v and 4.6v, again set through two-resistor voltage dividers. Whenever the wire potential exceeds any of these two referent voltages, an impulse is generated and the start\/stop condition is registered by the MCU.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.blog.exrockets.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/SCH_C.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1150\" src=\"http:\/\/www.blog.exrockets.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/SCH_C.png\" alt=\"SCH_C\" width=\"1307\" height=\"770\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.blog.exrockets.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/SCH_C.png 1307w, http:\/\/www.blog.exrockets.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/SCH_C-300x177.png 300w, http:\/\/www.blog.exrockets.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/SCH_C-1024x603.png 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1307px) 100vw, 1307px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For all voltage dividers I used resistors with 1% tolerance.
